Gray Hodgkinson is a digital media designer and researcher, with specific interests in digital media pedagogy and the various representations of animation, particularly when used for social commentary.
Gray has been developing animation education for 17 years, 14 of those at Massey University, Wellington, NewZealand. He has been instrumental in creating links between tertiary institutes and industry in New Zealand and internationally. Gray has also given presentations and published papers on animation research and pedagogy at Melbourne, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, Australia and the U.K. Topics have included employing symbolism in animation, using animation to represent social issues, integrating research and animation at honours and post graduate level, dealing with the Uncanny Valley in animation, and employing design-thinking strategies to develop original concepts for digital media.
